the barcode business's client is a major manufacturer that markets their high technology products under their own brand as well as into OEM markets. As a result their labelling requirement was complicated with hundreds of different label sorts being required, and they were all specially pre-printed for them. This was causing many problems:
- High label stock holding cost
- Took up lots of valuable storage space
- High cost of monitoring stocks
- Long lead time for label printing (not from the barcode business!)
- Obsolescence of label stock even before it was used
- Minimum order quantities of pre-printed labels higher than they often required
After careful analysis the barcode business recommended installation of 2 x Datamax W8306 thermal printers which allowed the client to generate all their variable labels using just 5 base full colour designs.
All their labels are now printed on demand, giving many benefits:

- No lead-time - labels produced as and when required.
